Day ten – Kalaw

Kalaw has a very nice laid back feel to it – it is a small town that has been used to lots of travellers coming and going due to the great hiking and trekking that can be done in the local areas. Problem is that because it is so high above sea level, it is also freezing cold! By freezing I mean averaging 10 to 16 degrees during the day and lower at night. That doesn’t sound too bad but considering I hadn’t done my research and had packed mainly summer clothes I spent the last night freezing my butt off and getting barely any sleep.

Any who, today was our trekking day. Our guides Victor and See Tu took us into the hill tribe areas showing us the local produce that they grow and how they live. It was interesting to see how new and sturdy their houses looked and how well maintained the fields were.

We stopped off for lunch at the houses of one of the villagers and had a home cooked meal and played peekaboo with the local kids who were so adorable!
