Day five – Bagan

Today was a free day from our tour, which meant that we were free to choose what to do for the day. The majority of people opted to go for a half a day trip out to Mt Popa, an hour and a half drive out of Bagan city. I really had no idea what to expect for this place as I hadn’t read up on it or anything but boy am I glad to have gone. There is a temple dedicated to the local spirits, built about 700m up on top of a mountain.

Monkeys are all around here, but hardly seemed aggressive as we had been warned about.

There was a fairly steep climb up to the top but the view was certainly worth it

Then we went to see some more temples, some more off the beaten track than others.

One of the temples had the original paintings on the inside from the 11th century and a majority was still visible. It was just amazing to be able to see and enjoy something with so much history.

Then we witnessed another spectacular sunset at one of the many temples around Bagan.

Tomorrow it is off on a river cruise up to Mandalay. Shall be something to look forward to!
